With motorized z-focus, coded 7x nosepiece, fully automated transmitted light axis, and fully automated 5x or 8x fluorescence axis, the automated Leica DM5500 B research microscope provides all transmitted and fluorescence light contrast methods including the world's first fully automated Differential Interference Contrast (DIC).
The Z drive is motorized, which offers the convenience of automatic parfocality adjustment, saved focus levels, and automated positioning of various Z levels

Change contrast methods with one button click: depending on the selected contrast technique and objective, microscope settings set automatically for the best image quality without time-consuming adjustments.
The Leica SmartTouch touchscreen or free programmable function buttons located behind the focus knobs controls the microscope conveniently and intuitively. Additional programmable function buttons are located on the well-known Leica SmartMove remote control and on the external Leica STP6000 SmartTouch Panel control.
Excellent image quality
The world'first fully automated DIC: with one touch of a button all system components automatically move into the light path and the fine adjustments for objective prisms are stored for each objective for reproducibility and excellent image quality.
Constant Color Intensity Control
The Leica‘s unique and patented Constant Color Intensity Control (CCIC) maintains the color temperature at a constant 3200 K when the lamp voltage is changed - the white balance that is normally required for digital camera use is now a thing of a past.
High contrast & brilliant images
The fully automated fluorescence axis with apochromatically-corrected optical path provides high contrast, brilliant images at a touch of a button:
- Motorized 5 or 8-position filter cube turret, motorized field diaphragm and fast motorized shutter
- Patented Fluorescence Intensity Management (Leica FIM)
- Optionally motorized Excitation Manager (patented) and fast Internal Filter Wheel (Leica IFW) for multiple fluorescences
Leica's unique Zero Pixel Shift filter cube technology ensures perfect image alignment of multiple fluorescence proteins.
